Verzachting voor patiënten
Undergoing radiotherapy is not pleasant. To make treatment more comfortable for patients, we’ve given the radiotherapy department a friendly and warm feel, rather than the usual sterile hospital look.
After the replacement of three radiation devices, the Erasmus MC now has state-of-the-art equipment; therefore, the treatment rooms themselves also needed a makeover.
We developed the design in close collaboration with the radiotherapy staff, paying careful attention to good ergonomics and layout. All the functions are in the right place and the tools are stored out of sight.
New wall units with rounded shapes and accent colours make the space pleasant and soothing. The colours are inspired by the colours of the birds for which the rooms are named: kingfisher, spoonbill and swallow.
Calm prevails in the space. This makes treatment more comfortable for the patient and therefore less invasive.
A corridor with a photo wall depicting the Biesbosch nature reserve takes the patients to the treatment rooms. The recognizable images of nature are also visible here.
Patients say they actually feel calmer in the renovated radiotherapy space.
