Expressive urban block
Almanak is a mix of apartments and townhouses, both for rent and for sale and therefore suitable for a diverse mix of residents. Communal facilities bring people together. Residents meet in the green courtyard garden or in the bicycle café.
INBO designed the landmark urban block in the Leeuwesteyn district at the foot of the Dafne Schippers Bridge.
Leeuwesteyn is a car-free and bicycle-friendly district on the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. The Almanak urban block welcomes cyclists and pedestrians entering the sustainable district from the city centre.
The design creates a community that balances privacy and vibrancy. Dwellings are open and the streets will be car-free. The complex will be close to energy neutral. Innovative indoor climate systems will provide residents with sustainable comfort. We will use high-quality materials, with reusability as a starting point.
Of particular note is the use of bricks from a 100-year-old industrial building, which are given a new lease of life here. With its expressive brick architecture, Almanak is a contemporary take on the Art Deco style, in keeping with the urban character of the Utrecht district.
Past and present come together to face the future.
